Hasshi’s weather forecasts had never once been right.
The day after he said, “Heavy rain tomorrow,” the sky would be clear. On afternoons he’d declared , “It’ll be sunny,” lightning always struck without fail.
But today was different.
“Rain’s coming tonight.”
Kopo hung his laundry out anyway, muttering, “It’ll be wrong as usual.”
In the middle of the night, it poured.
The next morning, gathering up his soaked laundry, Kopo shouted, “Why does it have to be right today of all days?!”
Hasshi, lounging on a tree branch, said, “My bones ached.”
“…That’s it?”
“That’s it.”
Kopo sighed . On World Meteorological Day, Amencho Town’s weather observation methods were about as analog as they came. But the ache in wings that had flown for decades might just be more honest than any machine.
Margin note: From the next day on, Kopo started checking on Hasshi every time he hung out the laundry.
