The grasslands of Amencho Town sparkled under the spring sunlight. Today was March 28th. Minico was staring intently at the ground, searching not for a four-leaf clover, but a “golden three-leaf clover.”
“Big brother, today’s an Ichiryu-manbai day. If you find something good here, they say it comes back a ten-thousand-fold.”
Beside him, Kopo sighed as he watched a news screen from the city. “There’s this amazing new art museum that opened in Takanawa. The ‘Guruguru Exhibition.’ Apparently they mix history and the future together in one big spinning display… Compared to that, our town is always the same. Just a patch of grass.”
Just then, Tacchi arrived, his footsteps affectedly sharp. He struck a pose at just the right angle to make his legs look especially long today.
“Heh… Kopo, the value of a thing isn’t decided by the size of its box — the museum, I mean. Don’t you think this very town of Amencho is the ’living exhibition’ the Dragon God spent a thousand years building?”
“Tacchi, are you just saying something complicated because you can’t reach it either?”
As the two of them bickered, Sonchō appeared from across the grassland, carrying an old but carefully maintained wooden box.
“Feh-feh. Tacchi’s got a point. Today’s the Day of the Tiger, and fortune with money is good too. Perhaps it’s time I open, on this fine day, the ‘invisible treasure’ I brought back from my adventuring days.”
When Sonchō opened the box, it appeared to be empty. As Kopo and Minico tilted their heads in confusion, Sonchō gently placed a sprig of clover from the grass inside the box.
“Look closely. See how the green of this clover reflects in the small puddle at the bottom of the box, turning into little grains of light? This is a droplet made of the same substance as Dragon God’s Lake. A one-of-a-kind piece of art, existing only for this single moment.”
The clover reflected in the box’s tiny water-mirror, catching the afternoon light and shining as brilliantly as emerald . A glow woven from nature and chance, the kind no cutting-edge city museum could ever have — the shine of “ichiryu-manbai,” one seed becoming ten thousand.
“…Whoa. It really does look like a golden clover.”
Kopo’s eyes lit up like a child’s.
“Kopo, it’s fine to look toward new things. But the heart that can notice the moment a clover at your own feet begins to shine — that’s the greatest good fortune of all.”
Keromi’s singing drifted in on the wind. No lyrics — just an improvised hum. In the shadow of the city’s big news, countless tiny “ichiryu-manbai” moments were quietly sprouting across the grasslands of Amencho Town.
